2006

  • March 12 - Grant, Male, West Highland White Terrier
092304 "BA Tier 1 very sweet w/ all handling/ vocal!! 3/12/06 "ADO return because they got a little puppy and now dog is being too aggressive to the new puppy". Seem to be poor adoption counseling. "Owner" dumps the little guy back at MCAS.
  • March 11 - Name Unknown, Male, Pitbull Mix
3/11/06 "Very aroused, leaping on me, panting, circling after his own tale. JJH". Scared dog but Jenny Holman seems to be tabulating reasons to kill.
  • March 11 - Marcus, Male, Pitbull Mix
3/11/06 "Passed assessment, no food guarding, outgoing and confident, good with strangers, no behavioral issues of concern. Lp", Linda Powers. 3/11/06 "health examination done, male intact puppy approx 3 mos, 15"...", campbellb. No BA on record. Behavior assessments done but apparently no records are kept.
  • March 10 - Dexter, Male, Pitbull Mix

  • March 9 - Name Unknown, Female, Pitbull Mix
3/3/06 "I called May Wallingford and she said her grandson is Kurt Kelso. She said he was in jail but did not know where. There is a Kurt Kelso (dob 12/31/57). • March 4 - Name Unknown, Male, Pitbull Mix
3/2/06 "unable to safely get dog on leash and out of kennel. Er 3/4/06 lac". ER (euthanasia review) 3/4/06 7:27 am: treatable/manageable. Dog was killed.
  • March 4 - Name Unknown, Male, Pitbull Mix
2/28/06 "BA done, no chip found, very friendly with strangers, a bit whiney in BA room when not being attended to, some barking as well at the sound of dogs, easy to handle, no food guarding, no obedience skills demonstrated. Lp", Linda Powers. 2/28/06 "Please disregard previous notes. They are for a different dog. Lp". 3/2/06 "BA attempted. Dog unsafe to handle, nearly bit my hand when attempted to leash. Er 3/4/06 lac". ER (euthanasia review) 3/4/06 7:29 am, treatable/manageable. Dog was killed.
  • March 2 - Name Unknown, Male, Pitbull Mix
Animal ID 453296. 2/28/06 "Tier 2, no chip found, ER 3/2/06 . lp", Linda Powers. This puppy was killed 3/2/06. Brother Dexter, Animal ID 453306, was allowed to live.
  • February 19 - Buckaroo Banzai, Male, Labrador Retriever and German Shepherd
2/3/06 "Volunteer Andy reported very jumpy in yard & kennel. JJH". 2/18/06 "Dog still has kc and is getting "jumpy" in kennel. Ap". This is a puppy.
  • January 20 - Name Unknown, Female, Basset Hound
"1/17/06 attempted to get out for BA two times. At first dog remained in bed, when approached skittered our to outside. She stood at threshold and growled at me. On second attempt with back door closed she moved to the back with tail tucked, hard stare at me and growling. Need another tester to try CT", tetzlac. "1/18/06 Had to lick in, when I approached dog gave hard eye & growled. ER 1/20/06. Pill. JJH", holmanj. Example of escalating stress. Dog was killed.
  • January 19 - Name Unknown, Male, Pitbull Mix
1/15/06 "K9 did aggressively charge a person in a large truck. K9 was barking and charged at person 2 times keeping her from exiting her vehicle. When I arrived I fed dog cookies through my window and gave dog commands which he did comply with. K9 did not act aggressively to me and I was able to secure him on a leash. Police officer transported K9 in back of patrol car and dog was fine. I was able to kennel him without incident. I believe K9 was aggressive due to loud diesel truck....", cherryn. 1/16/06 "Tier 2, no chip found, ER 1/19/06. lp", Linda Powers. Dog was killed.
  • January 18 - Name Unknown, Male, Labrador Retriever Mix
1/15/06 "BA Done-Tier 2-MCAS named, neg scan-NO KIDS under 12 years-Puppy needs LOTS of socialization to people and dogs-pup "smiles" when approached by strangers then avoids touching by ducking or moving away-Not very social, subtle food guarding that may increase with age, time, in home, and higher value items-Cannot tell breed mix for sure-poss pitbull/pointer or pointer mix??? Req dog/dog sjc", collins. 1/15/06 "If passes dog/dog-I think Small Time Dog Rescue may be a good fit to help with socialization and rehab-sjc", collins. 1/16/06 "This dog is a Tier 2 and a pit bull mix. Not adoptable. ER 1/17/05. lp", Linda Powers. Notice how the breed was changed by Linda Powers. This was a puppy with minor behavior issues, if we can even believe collins. This smiling puppy would have made a fine companion for someone. The breed change to "pit bull mix" no doubt was done to give Linda Powers her license to kill this dog, and the dog was killed. Tier 2 pitbulls and pitbull mixes receive a death sentence at MCAS. It's questionable at best that this dog was a pitbull mix. Whether a labrador retriever mix or pitbull mix (you'd think they could tell the difference, and they probably could) this adoptable puppy should have been given the chance for a happy home.
  • January 17 - Charlie, Male, Labrador Retriever
On 12/24/05 MCAS concluded "This dog is a sweetheart, tail never stop wagging and is easy to handle". On 1/7/06 a different person concluded that "This dog is not suitable for a foster home due to dog aggression". "BA re-test completed" on 1/17 and MCAS concluded "cannot foster/rescue due to dog aggression". With such subjective "analysis" one must question the credentials of the volunteer/staff persons doing the analysis. Note the behavior initally recorded. Even if the behavior recorded on later dates was factual we must question the use of behavior testing in an environment where fear and stress experienced by the animals is normal.
  • January 17 - Name Unknown, Male, Labrador Retriever Mix
Original classification as "Labrador Retriever Mix" followed by "Cannot tell breed mix for sure-poss pitbull/pointer or pointer mix???" followed by "This dog is a Tier 2 and a pit bull mix. Not adoptable." according to Linda Powers....how convenient for MCAS to change the classification.
  • January 8 - Name Unknown, Male, Pitbull Mix
1/4/06 "Passed puppy test, no chip found, no food guarding, will need socialization ongoing until the age of 2, no behavioral issues of concern, kids any age. Needs dog/dog test. Lp", Linda Powers. 1/7/06 "failed dog to dog. ER 1/8/06 lac", crabbl. We must question the use of the dog-to-dog test, and how behavior assessment is being used in general, especially when "failure" is used as a reason to kill. When Michael Oswald and others associated with MCAS have been questioned about the "puppy test", "dog-to-dog test" and other aspects of behavior assessment they have been unwilling to provide answers. This dog was killed.
  • January 8 - Name Unknown, Male, Pitbull Mix
"passed puppy test", "no behavioral issues of concern, kids any age", followed by "failed dog to dog", was killed.
  • January 7 - Name Unknown, Male, Pitbull Mix
"Last resort" adopter was approved. "Tier 2" dog was given dog/dog test on 1/4/06. Linda Powers concluded "Failed dog/dog test. I don't recommend adopting out". Next day possible adopter was contacted and given same-day deadline. "Last resort" individual was unable to adopt, dog was killed.

  • January 6 - Drake, Male, Pitbull
"12/29/05...approx 5.5-6 months old, lai", Ingstad. "Tier 1, no chip found. needs dog/dog test. Lp", Linda Powers. Passed dog/dog test. Very active slightly mouthy. No other issues of concern...Kids any age. Lp", Linda Powers. 1/4/06 "Positive for demodectic mange mite. Placing on ER for policy for 1/6/6 mlj", jacksom. Dog was killed...for mange mite(s), a correctable condition? Is that the policy?
  • January 5 - Name Unknown, Male, Labrador Retriever Mix
"Unable to get this dog out of the kennel safely, on approach runs outside growling, will also stay inside growling on approach. Asking for second try. Lp", Linda Powers. "1/4/06 - LP asked me to do a 2nd assessment. Results same as hers", goodel. Dog was killed.
  • January 6 - Mr. T, Male, German Shepherd Mix
"Called owner he is going to have mom call me - hasn't been able to get a ride out to get dog, is worried about aftercare costs. Told him we would hold until 6pm tonight otherwise dog would be euthanized tomorrow morning", John Rowton. No behavior assessment was conducted. Dog was killed.
  • January 6 - Name Unknown, Male, Jack Russell Terrier Mix
Collins reported "JRT rescue decline-Not a good rescue candidate sjc". Linda Powers followed up by reporting "BA done, Tier 3" and "Rescue candidate. Please put dog on foster/rescue list after health exam". This is an example of the subjective nature of the assessment process. It's one opinion versus another determining life or death for the animals. It also shows there is nothing scientific about the assessment process at MCAS. And by the way, this dog was killed.
  • January 4 - Name Unknown, Female, Pitbull
"failed puppy test" according to Linda Powers, no other behavior assessment info on record, puppy was killed.
  • January 2 - Buddy, Male, Jack Russell Terrier
Service dog of woman with seizure disorder "euthanized", no behavior assessment conducted, woman expected call from MCAS to redeem her dog, no call made before the dog was killed.

"All beings tremble before violence. All fear death, all love life. See yourself in others. Then whom can you hurt? What harm can you do?" -Buddha
